Turkey Holds Off Late Czech Republic Comeback to Advance

Dramatic Victory Secured by Late Winner

ISTANBUL, Turkey (June 26, 2024) - Despite playing with a numerical advantage for 70 minutes, Turkey faced a spirited comeback from the Czech Republic in their UEFA European Championship Group F match. The Turks ultimately prevailed 2-1, securing a late winner to advance to the knockout stage.

Czechs Mount Second-Half Comeback

The match began brightly for Turkey, with Cengiz Under putting them ahead in the 15th minute. However, the Czech Republic battled back after the half-time interval, with Patrik Schick equalizing in the 65th minute despite Turkey having been awarded a red card for a second bookable offense.

Turkey Overcome Numerical Disadvantage

Undeterred by the numerical disadvantage, Turkey continued to press forward and were rewarded in the 85th minute. Burak Yilmaz, who had come on as a substitute, slotted home the winning goal to secure Turkey's place in the knockout stage.
